      <abstract>
        <p>This study aimed to design a 100-unit residential complex for the personnel of the Kerman Airport by emphasizing the reciprocal effects of the environment and behavior to help improve environmental security. Falling under qualitative research, this study employed the descriptive-analytical method to investigate and analyze data. Data were collected through library studies. Kerman City’s climate was initially examined to extract positive climatic components, as architectural design guidelines on promoting environmental security were utilized to present a good technique for designing the residential complex. This study used cases that were similar to the subject and the study approach as samples. In this connection, articles, books, and other library sources were reviewed to analyze the theoretical foundation. Also, spatial and formal analyses, formal analyses of maps, artifacts, and tabulation were used to arrive at the idea in consideration. Findings showed that such factors as neighborhood and surveillance, supporting social activities, dominance, spatial territoriality, reinforcing territory, hierarchy, and repair and maintenance, among others, could help promote the security of residential complexes. Meanwhile, two principles of dignity and privacy, as well as the criteria of contentment, transparency, nature, moving from plurality to unity, spatial hierarchical classification, and neighborhood constitute the principles and criteria for designing security-based residential complexes.</p>
